HeforShe Campaign

Hope For Life Initiative in association with United Nations Information Centre and the Lagos State Ministry of Education   propagated the HeFor She campaign in three schools located in different districts in Lagos.  The initiative began at the Oduduwa Junior High School, Gbagada in Bariga on the 26th of November 2014. At the school, the National Anthem opened the event with representatives from Hope for life initiative led by Kendi Aig-Imoru introducing the campaign. She spoke on the importance of not only taking the message to at least ten persons outside the school but out to their brothers, sisters and families as it was most important that the change began with every one present. She emphasized the importance on saying No to Violence and the ideals of the HeforShe campaign. The students then presented a drama piece which was followed by words of wisdom by the students on the need to stay away from gender violence. This was followed by a discussion session with the students and a question and answer session. The event ended with light refreshments.

This next bus stop was at the Anyanburen Senior Secondary School in Ikorodu, on the 4th of December, the earlier date slated for the 28th was changed to accommodate the second school also at Isanwo in Ikorodu. At this event, a representative from the Ministry of Education was on hand to lend their support to the campaign at both schools. At Anyanburen Senior secondary school, Kendi Aig-Imoru reiterated the importance of ending violence against women and the girl child.  She also said that boys must assist girls and above all sustain the ideals of the HeForShe campaign. The event also ended with light refreshment.

At the end of the event, representatives from Hope For Life Initiative and the Ministry of Education proceeded to Isanwo Junior High school where everyone including participants had an interesting walk to the school on the outskirts of Ikorodu. Again, there was a presentation by the students and a concluding speech by Mrs. Bunmi Olanrewaju, Education District 11 Maryland. She reiterated the importance of the project and the opportunity to spread the message outside the school particularly to the community.

In all, the students were excited as they had the opportunity to learn about the campaign and make promises on remaining true to the ideals of the HeForShe campaign. The outreaches to the three schools were in all productive as students who could not make it into the hall had an opportunity to hear the message. >
